Tenses
- PräsensWhat is happening now, what is always true, and often what is still to come.
- PräteritumMostly in written stories and reports about the past.
- PerfektThe normal past tense in spoken German.
- PlusquamperfektSomething that had already happened before another moment in the past.
- Futur IWhat happens in the future, especially for a prediction or a promise, or when nothing else in the sentence shows it is about later.
- Konjunktiv IIWhat is not real or not certain: a wish, a condition that is not true, or a polite request.
- ImperativFor an order, a request or advice.
